Help find the Cage that Flew the Coop!

Richmond Wildlife Center

Richmond Wildlife Center hospitalRecently, an animal cage was stolen from the back of the Richmond Wildlife Center hospital. This cage was donated by a caring donor who lost their bird and wanted their pet’s home to go on and save lives.   The Richmond Wildlife Center tries their best to help as many animals as possible. They often receive complaints  that they do not admit enough patients.

One of their critical capacity issues is a lack of cage space and cage availability. Now that this cage has been stolen, they will have to admit even fewer animals. The nonprofit is experiencing enough financial hardships as it is, the last thing that the Richmond Wildlife Center needed was for a cage to be stolen.

Though the value of this cage could result in a felony charge. If this cage is returned in the next 72 hours and happens to appear back where it was taken from without any damage and intact, the Richmond Wildlife Center will not press charges. Please return our cage in the next 72 hours, no questions asked. If you know who is responsible please encourage them to return the cage or report them to Powhatan Sheriff’s Office at 804-598-5656. The Richmond Wildlife Center complex has surveillance cameras and the authorities are reviewing the footage.

Please SHARE!

Help them get their cage back!

Balance in your fitness program

balanceThere are basically three components of fitness that, when in appropriate balance, allow us to be physically prepared for whatever life throws our way. Those three are strength, mobility and endurance.

Take a look at your week and see what your training is developing. Compare that to what you need to develop. I can assure you that there is often one or two areas that that we are not effectively addressing. Equally often, we tend to default to training what we are already “good” at; runners want to run more, yogis want to do more yoga and strength athletes want to do more strength training.

It is likely that we could all benefit from an honest audit of our fitness routine in light of what we’re already great at vs. what probably needs more attention! ‪

Meet Dr. Lauren Wynne, PhD, LPC, NCC

Registered Play Therapist & Supervisor (RPT&S)

Family Guidance Centers – Midlothian Office

Lauren WynneIn 2000, Lauren Wynne earned her Ph.D. in Counseling from Georgia State University. Before that, she earned her M.Ed. and Ed.S. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida. Dr. Wynne is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor and Registered Play Therapist & Supervisor. Dr. Wynne has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings, including the Alachua County Crisis Center, the University of Florida Division of Housing, and Gwinnett County Public Schools. She has worked as a faculty member in the counselor education programs at Georgia State University and, most recently, Longwood University. She is often asked to provide trainings for school and community-based mental health providers who want to incorporate expressive therapies into their counseling practice.

Wynne says, “As a play therapist and child counselor, I try to provide an environment where children can express their concerns and find new, more appropriate ways to cope. Play is the natural language of children, and toys are their words. This approach to child counseling and family consultation is helpful to children who are struggling with personal, family, educational, social, and emotional concerns. Through play, children learn communication, social, and decision-making skills as well as develop cognitively and emotionally. I believe that a child’s treatment outcome is directly affected by parent involvement, and I look forward to working with parents and other family members throughout the helping process.”

Dr. Wynne’s current practice focus includes working with clients on issues that include anxiety, K-12 school/college transitions, family changes, family conflict, and grief/loss. She also enjoys leading parenting groups and consulting with high school students and their families about the college transition process.

To make an appointment with Dr. Wynne at Family Guidance Center’s convenient Midlothian office call 804-794-6600.  The office is located at 831 Grove Road, Suite C. Midlothian , VA. 23114 and appointments are available Monday through Friday.

What does Mosquito Squad do?

Frequently asked questions

Mosquito Squad of South Richmond

Mosquito SuadMosquito Control

Will Mosquito Squad kill all the mosquitoes and ticks on my property?

No service can offer 100% protection from every mosquito and tick. As you might imagine, a mosquito from a neighboring property could wander into your yard and bite you before feeding on the treated foliage. However, you’ll find that the presence of mosquitoes and ticks is enormously reduced. And if you don’t, you can get a refund based on our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Does the all-natural automatic misting spray kill mosquitoes and ticks?

Not necessarily. The all-natural product, is designed to repel rather than kill.

Will the smell of the all-natural spray repel me?

You’ll be able to sense a non-intrusive botanical fragrance after the application that will dissipate soon after.

Can I get the all-natural treatment as a barrier spray?

Yes, but since it is a repellent, we know that it must be applied every 14 days to remain most effective.

Should I rely on the information on this site determine whether I have a vector-borne disease?

Definitely not. We do not purport to be a medical authority, nor do we claim to have complete lists of symptoms, diagnostic data or treatment information. You should contact a health care professional immediately if you suspect a vector-borne disease.

Besides professional mosquito control treatments, are there steps I can take to protect my family from mosquitoes and ticks myself?

Yes! You can learn about them on our mosquito and tick pages as well as at the Centers for Disease Control.

You certainly have a lot of facts and statistics on your website. Where did you get them all?

As pest control professionals, we stay current on rules, regulations, and facts regarding insect life, diseases and control. The information on this website has been gathered from our professional experience and from credible sources such as state agricultural and health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health. However, much of the science on vector-borne disease and pest management is continually developing. There are contradictions from source to source and even within sources. We have made every effort to present what we believe to be the most current, most widely accepted facts–but, keep in mind that things change faster than we can update and conflicting scientific opinions exist.

Barrier Spray

How can the barrier spray continue to kill mosquitoes for 21 days?

Mosquitoes will feed on plant juices. When they attempt to feed on sprayed leaves, the residual from the spray will kill them.

Can I get the standard barrier spray, rather than the all-natural spray, for my automatic misting system?

Additional Services

Does Mosquito Squad provide any other treatments besides the sprays?

Yes. Recommended treatment will depend on the needs of you particular property. You may need a larvacide, tick tubes, or other preventive measures. Your Mosquito Squad representative will make specific recommendations. (Please note that different states have different rules regarding treatment and licensing, so it is impossible to provide specific answers via this worldwide website.)

Does Mosquito Squad service commercial accounts?

Definitely! We service restaurants with outdoor seating, parks, recreational facilities, and many other outdoor spaces. We are happy to serve businesses, organizations, municipalities and government agencies.

Can I just get a one-time treatment for a special outdoor party?

Yes. We have a special event spraying available for everything from a small birthday party to a huge wedding reception. Special event treatment is provided 24-48 hours before the event and will remain effective even if it rains.

Service Coordination

Who refills my automatic misting system?

You can contract with Mosquito Squad to service your system. You need never lift a finger.

Will I know when Mosquito Squad is coming?

Yes. We alert you at least 24 hours in advance of a scheduled treatment. That should allow you plenty of time to reschedule if it is not convenient.

Do I need to be home for the treatments?

Mosquito SquadNo. And we’ll leave a notice so you know for certain that your service has been provided.

Consultation and Estimates

Does it cost me anything to meet with a Mosquito Squad professional?

No! You can arrange for a free consultation and estimate with absolutely no obligation whatsoever.

Dread Skeeter is kind of cute. Is he based on a real person?

Dread Skeeter is not based on any single person. He is a representation of the passion we at Mosquito Squad all have for protecting our neighbors from the dangers and annoyance of disease-carrying, blood-sucking bugs.
