Major Responsibilities:

  • Arrives at least 5 minutes prior to class time start.

  • Prepares choreography and music before class start.
  • Builds and maintains a positive relationship with members.
  • Listens to member complaints and suggestions and passes them onto the Group Fitness Director.
  • Promotes one’s own classes, other instructors’ classes and any other gym events.

  • Assumes responsibility for finding substitutes. (post sub, mass email, phone calls — Group Fitness Director should be last resort in finding subs)

  • Maintains a positive relationship with all gym members and staff.

  • Keeps up with changes and updates on our internal scheduling website, GroupExPro. This must be checked at least once a week.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must hold current adult CPR.
  • Must hold current certification by a nationally recognized association in group exercise, personal training or a specialty group exercise.
  • Must be willing to obtain other certifications as directed by the Group Fitness Director.

Title: Youth Programs Counselor (Before & After School, Kids Zone, Summer Camp, Youth Sports, Events, Birthday Parties, Transportation)
Department: Youth Programs
Reports to: Director of Youth Programs
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

ShiftsMust be available for Before School 6:45am to 9:15am and After School 3:00-6:30pm, Monday-Friday.  Other opportunities and shifts are available.

Summary:
The acac Counselor is responsible for leading and supervising elementary and middle school children who participate in acac’s Youth Programs. He or she must follow all acac policies and procedures associated with this position and all Virginia Department of Social Services licensing standards at all times. Candidates must be professional, responsible, and full of personality.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Supervises and interacts with children in  youth programs that promote educationally and developmentally-stimulating programs and activities, which includes classroom time and bus/transportation time
  • Maintains working knowledge of and follows VDSS licensing standards for child care at all times
  • Initiates interactions among children and communicates using a style that builds relationships and promotes teamwork

The Swim Coach conducts practices for acac members and guests as part of acac’s Dolphin Club Program (or Summer League Swim Team programs) following the head coach’s guidelines. The Swim Coach works with children of different ages and ability levels so that they progress effectively to higher levels of swimming.

  • Maintains vigilance while conducting practice in order to maintain constant control of the group and emphasize safety at all times

Title: Personal Trainer
Department: Fitness
Reports to: Fitness and Personal Training Director

Summary:
Personal Trainers are responsible for providing one-on-one instruction and/or assessments and for working in small group settings to help acac members and guests meet their fitness goals.  This is a part-time position with the possibility of becoming full-time.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Provides fitness assessments and health appraisals
  • Creates, introduces, and monitors exercise programs
  • Evaluates individuals’ abilities, needs, and physical conditions and develops suitable training programs to meet any special requirements
  • Monitors participants’ progress and adapts programs as needed
  • Motivates members to adhere to their exercise programs in personal or small group training sessions
  • Provides clients with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues
  • Maintains the fitness floor and equipment in a meticulously detailed and functional manner
  • Helps or offers suggestions to individuals who are new to exercise
  • Demonstrates proper operation of fitness equipment, such as resistance machines, cardio machines, free weights, or fitness assessment devices
  • Has a solid understanding of how each piece of exercise machine works and can properly make adjustments for individual members
  • Is prepared to help members/guests at all times and seeks out opportunities to help and/or correct exercise form
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to build client base and generate increasing revenue
  • Redeems series sales sessions within 24 hours of conducting sessions
  • Upholds acac’s culture of customer service by seeking out opportunities to engage members/guests through eye contact, smile, and learning members’ names
  • Collaborates with acac Team Members in the spirit of outstanding customer service, teamwork, and communication
  • Arrives to work with enough time to prepare for sessions
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Wears proper uniform at all times while at work and always presents the acac brand and standard anytime and anywhere the acac uniform is worn
  • Attends departmental meetings and any other meetings as requested
  • If not already certified, attends CPR and First Aid training provided by acac and maintains current CPR/FA certification for the duration of employment
  • Attends New Hire Launch within 30 days of employment
  • Checks acac email daily
  • Reads, signs, and abides by the policies included in the Team Member Handbook
  • Parks in team member designated areas
  • Club cleanliness is an all-team responsibility; helps whenever necessary in any area of the club to keep club neat and clean
  • Helps with acac programs, special events, or activities outside department
  • When supervisor or team members call or email, promptly returns contact
  • Exhibits a positive attitude at all times and upholds acac’s values of teamwork, customer service, and engagement
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working in a fitness setting highly desired
  • Experience with driving personal training sales highly desired
  • Must possess and maintain a current NOCA-NCCA accredited organization certification for the duration of employment
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications a plus
  • Must be friendly and approachable
  • Highly dependable and prompt
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to motivate and inspire clients

Title: Lifeguard
Department: Aquatics
Reports to: Aquatics Director or Lifeguard Manager

Summary:
The acac Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool participants and protecting them from harm, ensuring the safe and clean operation of indoor and/or outdoor pools and deck areas, and exhibiting outstanding customer service and communication skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
OPENING SHIFTS AND MORNING AVAILABILITY ONLY

  • Arrives to work in a timely manner (5 min early) to ensure that aquatics areas are in good running order and to be at the stand as scheduled
  • Maintains an alert and professional appearance on the lifeguard stand and is prepared to respond to aquatic emergencies using rescue techniques and equipment
  • Practices proactive pool scanning in an effort to prevent aquatic emergencies
  • Maintains knowledge of acac aquatic polices, effectively communicates these to members and guests, and enforces acac aquatic policies if unsafe situations arise
  • Maintains unobstructed and uninterrupted view of the Aquatic Center at all times, which includes separating when two or more guards are on duty to ensure all pools are covered and deferring specific questions about programming/policies to a manager during busy times
  • Maintains and repairs aquatic equipment as directed, which includes safety equipment, exercise equipment, cleaning supplies, and aquatic equipment
  • Completes daily cleaning tasks as directed
  • Completes daily water chemistry readings as directed
  • Ensures assigned shifts are covered prior to leaving at end of shift
  • Ensures ongoing familiarity with acac programs to manage questions and communicate knowledgeably to acac members and guests
  • Proactively looks to help members with finding space/lane to use especially during busy or family time hours
  • During slow periods of activity, helps with daily cleaning tasks and other items as assigned by the Aquatics Director
  • Attends lifeguard in-service training and departmental meetings
  • Maintains current Lifeguard Certification at all times
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs the Essential Functions and Responsibilities as described (other duties may be assigned)
  • Remains competent in administering acac’s Emergency Action Plan and is alert and prepared for any emergency
  • If unable to work, proactively seeks substitutes for shifts and immediately informs supervisor of the substitution
  • Wears proper uniform at all times while at work and always presents the acac brand and standard anytime and anywhere the acac uniform is worn
  • Attends departmental meetings and any other meetings as requested
  • Attends New Hire Launch within 30 days of employment
  • Checks acac email daily
  • Ensures that time worked does not exceed 40 hours during the pay week (Sunday-Saturday); any overtime worked must be pre-approved by the supervisor
  • Reads, signs, and abides by the policies included in the Team Member Handbook

  • Club cleanliness is an all-team responsibility; helps whenever necessary in any area of the club to keep club neat and clean

  • Red Cross Lifeguard certification preferred
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
  • Previous lifeguarding experience preferred

Summary:
Cafe Team Members are responsible for thorough and outstanding cleanliness of the cafe, with particular attention to food preparation areas. Cafe Team Members deliver food menu items using safe food handling techniques and provide excellent customer service.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • ​Provides quality food service and customer service to acac members and guests by striving to exceed member/guest expectations
  • Cooks food or prepares food items such as sandwiches, wraps, salads, smoothies, parfaits, and snacks
  • Maintains extremely clean and organized work areas and café seating areas by performing cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes to keep equipment and facility sanitary
  • Completes assigned daily tasks
  • Replenishes foods in storage or serving areas as needed
  • Brews coffee and tea and fills beverage containers as needed
  • Safely operates café appliances/equipment, including but not limited to: oven, grill, smoothie machine, meat/cheese slicer, microwave
  • Helps train Café Team Members as needed
  • Continuously practices safe food handling techniques
  • Solicits, receives, and responds to member feedback regarding the Café Menu and shares feedback with supervisor
  • Proactively provides routine maintenance and cleaning for café equipment
  • Processes POS transactions accurately and in an efficient manner
  • Ensures security of cash drawer and reconciles daily receipts
  • Understands and follows café opening and closing procedures
  • Arrives to work at least 5 minutes before start of shift
