Robious Corridor OnlineChesterfield County Public Schools will have five films featured at the 2017 Virginia High School League Film Festival on June 2-3 at Virginia Commonwealth University. Films from Clover Hill and Midlothian high schools were five of the nearly 100 films submitted to the VHSL’s annual Film Festival. Fewer than 40 films will be honored with screenings at the two-day event.

“Chesterfield County Public Schools supports a strong arts education in our schools, and we are honored to have five films representing our students’ work featured in this prestigious festival,” said School Board Chair Dr. Javaid Siddiqi, whose Midlothian District includes Midlothian High. “We applaud the hard work of the student-filmmakers, and we look forward to the screenings of their films.”

The VHSL Film Festival encourages participation, supports filmmaking education and recognizes student achievement in film as an academic program. VHSL believes that film is both an art form and communication tool that encourages creativity in individuals and crews, and sharpens students’ knowledge of conceptualizing, researching, writing, casting, directing, acting, cinematography and editing.

“Filmmaking is an important form of art for our students,” said Dianne Smith, who represents Clover Hill High as the Clover Hill District School Board member. “We are excited to have our students’ talents showcased at this event, and we are honored to have their work recognized by VHSL and in front of school divisions from across the state.”

In addition to screenings, the film festival will also include guest speakers, filmmaker Q&A, and a photographed red carpet and an awards ceremony.

“We are excited to showcase this creative, innovative work done by our students across the state,” Superintendent Dr. James Lane said. “I am constantly amazed at the high quality of work I see coming from our schools each time I visit and look forward to reviewing these projects.”

The following films will be featured in the festival:

    The Unheard Voice, Midlothian High

    Bravery, Clover Hill High

    Pithos, Clover Hill High

    Cover Up, Clover Hill High

Flew the Coop, Clover Hill High
