ABOUT JRHS NJROTC…
LEADERSCommissioned in 2009, the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program at James River High School helps BUILD STRONG LEADERS that strive to promote patriotism. The program affords cadets a unique opportunity to learn leadership in the best way possible—by leading others. Student leaders plan and govern yearly unit activities including field trips, community service projects, fundraising, drill competitions, and the unit website.

The program currently serves over 130 students from Chesterfield County, Virginia. Our Naval Science curriculum teaches lifelong skills such as personal fitness, finding the right career, and what it means to first follow and then lead. Through community service opportunities and extracurricular team activities, we impress upon the hearts and minds of cadets:

  • The Value of Citizenship
  • Service to the United States
  • Personal Responsibility
  • A Sense of Accomplishment

JRHS NJROTC has grown in both size and prestige, earning the status of Distinguished Unit in 2013, Unit Achievement in 2014 and Distinguished Unit again in 2015 and 2016.
