Farmville’s Independence Day Celebration

American FlagGates open at 4:30 p.m. for the event on July 3 at the Farmville Regional Airport, 130 Wedgewood Drive, Farmville (inside Cumberland County). Fireworks start at dark, about 9:30 p.m. Come ready to enjoy an evening filled with good music, a talent show, a variety of food a spectacular fireworks show and performances by Bridget Carrington and Theory, solo artist Tommy Fleshman, and country musician Hannah Rose. Admission is $5 per vehicle. No pets, coolers are welcome but no glass bottles. Organizers reserve the right to inspect all coolers. Goochland Fourth of July Fireworks

Bring picnics (no alcohol), park and watch the fireworks, beginning at 9 p.m. on July 4 from the Goochland Sports Complex (old high school), 1800 Sandy Hook Road, Goochland. Free.

Chesterfield County Fourth of July Celebration

Dogwood Dell Fourth of July

Fireworks at dark follow concerts featuring Bak N Da Day and Richmond Concert Band in patriotic and popular favorites beginning at 5:30 p.m. on July 4 in Dogwood Dell, Byrd Park. Contact 804-646-3355.

Ashland Fourth of July

Non-motorized parade starts at 11 a.m. on July 4 at Henry Clay Elementary School on Hanover Avenue and marches to Hanover Arts & Activities Center, 500 S. Center St., for contests, music, crafts, games and small-town fun. Free.

Red, White and Lights

Bring blankets and lawn chairs for living-history exhibits, contests and games, family activities and more, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on July 4; live music (including Richmond Symphony under the Big Tent) beginning at 6 p.m., and a state-of-the-art laser light show finale, all at Meadow Farm/Crump Park, 3400 Mountain Road. Pamplin Park Independence Day Commemoration

Living history programs and demonstrations throughout the day, including artillery demonstration and ceremony at 1 p.m. and Civil War-era music by the Breakthrough Band at 2:30 p.m. on July 4 at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, 6125 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie County. Independence Day re-enactment…

of the Second Virginia Convention, where Patrick Henry’s exclamation “… give me liberty, or give me death!” is the dramatic climax, performed at 11:30 a.m. (doors open at 11) and 1:45 p.m. (doors open at 1:15) on July 4 at St. John’s Church, 2401 E.
