Corporal caps off Chesterfield Police career

Chesterfield County Police

CorporalCorporal Rodney Pretko has spent his last day in a green uniform recently. Pretko officially retired from the Chesterfield County Police Department after nearly 27 years of service. During his career, he has served as Detective, Field Training Officer, Patrol Rifle Operator, Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team member and Towing Services Coordinator.

Corporal Pretko was awarded a Police Star for his three attempts to rescue a family trapped upstairs in a burning home. He earned three Life Saving Awards. Two, for actions he took on different occasions to prevent individuals from committing suicide.   And, another for utilizing a defibrillator and performing CPR on a person in cardiac arrest prior to rescue’s arrival. Corporal Pretko has also received several Chief’s Commendations and Achievement Awards.

Pretko is known as a team player among his coworkers and a caring officer across the county. Recently, Corporal Pretko met a new friend who longs to be an officer, so he spent a few minutes letting the little guy explore the patrol car; classic “Pretko.” It’s safe to say Corporal Pretko will be missed by not only his department family, but also by the community he has served.

Congratulations, best wishes, and thank you for your service.
