Clelin Ferrell and Cornell Urquhart

A unique pair of Benedictine alumni, Clelin Ferrell ’15 and Cornell Urquhart ’14 moved on to the next level after playing together for the Cadets.  That is not what makes them unique.  What makes them unique is what they accomplished recently.

Cornell moved on to play football for James Madison University.  In only his junior year, Urquhart has racked up thirty-two sacks for the Dukes.  While his statistics are impressive, it is not his statistics that make him unique.  What makes Cornell unique is that he played a critical role on the team that won the 2016 FCS National Championship game against perennial power Youngstown State.  Not too many people can call themselves a National Champion.  Cornell Urquhart is one of them.

The other is Urquhart’s high school teammate, Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell.  Ferrell played lights out defense against the vaunted University of Alabama offense with the FBS National Championship Title on the line.  On a last second score, the Clemson Tigers upset the Crimson tide by a 35-31 score.  Clelin’s unrelenting pressure on defense played a hug role in the victory.

After the game, when the smoke cleared, like his old Cadet teammate Cornell Urquhart, Clelin Ferrell could call himself a National Champion.  That is what makes them a unique pair and that is why…
