MIDLOTHIAN, VA (April, 2019)

Approximately 300 school and school division partners will be recognized Friday at Chesterfield County Public Schools’ annual Business and Community Partners Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union. Conexus, Publix Super Markets and Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services have been selected as 2019 Partners of the Year for their contributions in support of the school division’s students, schools and families.

“Strong partnerships are an integral component to any school division’s success,” School Board Chair Rob Thompson said. “The Chesterfield County School Board is grateful to be part of a community that has been a strong supporter of Chesterfield County Public Schools. “We are fortunate to have a number of partners willing to invest in our efforts to create a better tomorrow. Our partners are vital to helping us ignite passion in all of our students through authentic and captivating experiences.”

Chesterfield County Public Schools benefits from a variety of partnerships with local businesses, faith organizations, civic associations and individuals. The investment of any partnership makes a difference in the lives of students, their families and the community. Whether through in-kind contributions, financial support, scholarships, internships, time or other resources, these partners play a key role in helping prepare Chesterfield County students for success while strengthening schools and the entire Chesterfield community.

At Friday’s luncheon, the School Board will recognize three division-level Partners of the Year:

2019 Partner of the Year in Support of Students

Conexus has provided brighter futures for Chesterfield County students and their families by providing students with vision care through free eye exams. In partnership with Communities In Schools of Chesterfield, more than 300 students participated in vision screenings earlier this school year. Of those students examined, 241 ultimately received a free pair of eyeglasses. In addition to these services, Conexus was able to connect nearly 40 other students with local doctors for discussion about additional complex care needs.

2019 Partner of the Year in Support of Schools

Publix Super Markets has made an impressive impact on Chesterfield County Public Schools from the time the first local store opened in 2017, and quickly has become a go-to partner for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Publix generously provided financial support to schools located within two miles of their stores, donated food products for school events and provided six pallets of school supplies that were shared with many Chesterfield County schools. Publix also graciously offered to sponsor the school division’s annual Kindergarten Transition Fair this spring.

2019 Partner of the Year in Support of Families

Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services works in tandem with the school division’s student support services team and local schools to meet students’ many wellness and mental health needs. In addition to providing vital mental health consultation to all Head Start and VPI+ classrooms, Prevention Services offers additional support such as assisting families as they navigate the middle school experience. This past year the prevention team collaborated with the High School Innovation Grants at Thomas Dale and Monacan and assisted with the Preventure pilot at the Carver College and Career Academy

Organizations interested in partnering with Chesterfield County Public Schools are encouraged to contact the school division’s Family and Community Engagement Office at 639-8743.
