Cadets sweep three strong programs

Benedictine College Preparatory

threeThe Cadets went into #5 in the area New Kent this evening to take on Puquoson, Smithfield, and the home team in a quad before the Commonwealth Catholic Classic this weekend on Rut Court.

Looking for some momentum after a grinder of a season so far and two starters still down, the Cadets showed well and did not disappoint. In the first match the Cadets beat the Puquoson Bull Islanders who just finished runner up this past weekend in the American Division of the Virginia Duals by a score of 48-25. After making short work of the Smithfield Packers 70-6 the Cadets were ready to do battle with the home team who was also 2-0 on the night that many thought would be a tough test for the Cadets. However, Coach Hall’s grapplers came out blitzing! After a forfeit at 126 to make the team score 6-6 the Cadets rolled on all cylinders getting pins at 32, 38, 45, 52, and 60. A tough 4-2 decision at 170 left the team score 36-9. The Cadets got back to back 6-point matches at 182 and 195 to extend their lead to 48-9. A tough decision at 220 by New Kent’s best wrestler, Daughtry would pin at heavyweight and Barnes would get a more than convincing 7-0 decision at 106 against a solid opponent. The Cadets dropped the last match at 113 but the final team score was 57-18 Cadets.

“Really like how we wrestled with a chip on our shoulder tonight. The guys wrestled hard and for each other. We really need to keep that going as we enter a very important 2 week stretch of our season before February. Great wins for our program tonight against some very good teams” said Coach Hall after the match.

Going 3-0 on the night for the Cadets were Barnes, Chandler, Albergo, Vaughan, Griffith, Johnson, Coates, Collins, and Daughtry.
The Cadets are back in action at home this weekend for the 9th annual CCC (Commonwealth Catholic Classic). Admissions is $5 and wrestling starts at 10:00.
