Cadets continue to roll on the mat

Benedictine College Preparatory

CadetsThe Cadets traveled to Colonial Forge High School today for the always strong Battlefield Duals. This was the first time the Cadets made this trip as last year’s tournament was snowed out. The Cadets joined 4 other teams in Brentsville, Potomac, Colonial Forge, and #1 ranked team in Virginia – Battlefield High School. Despite forfeiting two weight classes and down three starters due to sickness/injury and putting themselves in a 12-0 hole each time they stepped on the mat, the Cadets topped state powerhouse Colonial Forge 45-27, Potomac 48-24, Brentsville 59-18 before losing the championship bout with Battlefield High School in an entertaining 45-31 defeat to finish runner up on the day and pushing this year’s dual record to 5-2.

“Battlefield is well coached and a very talented team. They have some real hammers that will carry them very far in tournaments throughout the year. We gave it our best shot and made it relatively interesting, but it is a tall task to go in and try to knock off any top tier program forfeiting two weight classes. Therefore, we knew we were up against but very proud how the young men battled all day to come out 3-1 and giving Battlefield a great match considering the circumstances. I think I said it last week but if we can get healthy, it could be dangerous in a very good way. Our new guys continue to improve and become an impact and our veterans loath for this portion of the season. It will be interesting, and I am excited for what the second half of the season conrnues to bring leading into the playoff season” said Coach Hall after the match.

Going 4-0 for the Cadets today were Barnes, O. Avgeros, Coates, and Jones. 3-1 on the day for the Cadets were Chandler, C. Avgeros, Tremain, and Collins. Finishing the day at 2-2 were Ward, Vaughan, Johnson, and Daughtry.

The Cadets are back in action as they will travel to Lee-Davis to take on the best public school in the RVA area before heading to the Hampton Coliseum this weekend to compete at the Virginia Duals where they will compete in the National Division.
